Scarborough
Borough Council showed its support for Love Where You Live with
a community litter collection at South Cliff Gardens in the town on
4 October. The council's community environment unit organised the
event which involved Volunteers in Parks for Scarborough and
children from the local Wheatcroft School.
"It's a real sign that people care about the town and how
it looks, as well as wanting to save the environment. It is just
one of the many events organised by the community environment unit
with the aim of making Scarborough a place to be enjoyed by people
of all ages, whether they are tourists or residents," said Roger
Burnett, community environment officer for Scarborough Borough
Council.
Pictured right, are some of the 36 children from
Wheatcroft School who enjoyed participating in the event as
part of the national Love Where You Live campaign. As well as
taking part in the litter pick, the event also helped
to raise awareness of their environmental
responsibilities.

South Cliff Gardens is an area of outstanding natural
beauty, overlooking Scarborough's South Bay. The gardens (pictured
above) are listed in the Register of Historic Gardens and
are well used by tourists and residents alike. Stretching for a
mile, the gardens have many colourful flowerbeds. It is also the
site of Scarborough Spa and the building used as the hospital in
ITV's The Royal. Both are locations which will be familiar
to people and are often tourist sites.
